James is deeply engaged in the FTZ community through the National Association of Foreign Trade Zones (NAFTZ), where he has served on the Board of Directors since 2015 and as Chairman of the Board in 2025. He has chaired multiple committees and task forces and maintains strong relationships with operators/users, grantees, service providers, the FTZ Board, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). In 2021, he co-founded the Texas Association of Foreign Trade Zones (TAFTZ) to strengthen regional education, collaboration and advocacy.
Beyond FTZs, James helps companies evaluate participation in CBP partnership programs such as CTPAT, ISA/CTPAT Trade Compliance, and other AEO-modeled programs, including designing testing processes and supporting periodic reviews. He also conducts global trade function assessments to evaluate organizational structure, personnel, procedures, and technology, identifying risks, savings opportunities, and alignment with leading practices.
James is a Licensed Customs Broker, Accredited Zones Specialist, and Certified Zones Specialist.
