Dr. Eugene Laney Jr.

President and CEO, American Association of Exporters and Importers

Eugene Laney Jr. is President and CEO of the American Association of Exporters and Importers, a century-old trade organization representing U.S. companies involved in global commerce. With over 30 years of experience in public and governmental affairs, he previously led international government affairs for DHL Express USA, shaping trade policy and promoting export programs.

Laney played a key role in advancing major trade legislation, including the Trade Facilitation and Enforcement Act and U.S. trade agreements with Panama, Colombia, South Korea, and the WTO. Earlier in his career, he was Director of Legislative Services at the Global Business Travel Association, where he contributed to post-9/11 aviation security reforms.

He has also worked as a journalist at Congressional Quarterly, contributed to leading publications, and taught international business at the Washington Center. He serves on several trade-related boards and councils. Laney holds a Ph.D. in American Government from Howard University, MPA and BA degrees from Florida A&M, and an executive certificate from MIT Sloan.
